Meeting with Gabriel Barre in Prague

About ten years ago I decided that I have enough works in portfolio and that I should try to find composing gigs outside of the country. I was still lacking confidence and money but I thought that having the greatest communication invention ever, the internet would help me get in touch easier with film and theatre directors. So I spend years sending at least twenty cold emails daily. One of the few theatre directors that replied to me was Gabriel Barre. Altought that was the point of the whole process,I couldn’t believe that a guy that had an amazing career as an actor (he was nominated for Tony awards for best leading actor in a musical) and working as a director on/off Broadway, Asia, Europe was something overwhelming for me. Couple of weeks later we even had a video call while he wasin Prague. Unfortunately, besides my lack of self confidence, I was also very low on money. Despite this, we kept in touch and I always shared with him my works and he was always kind enough to listen and reply to my emails. This year, when he said that he’ll be working in Prague for a new musical I said that this is not a chance to miss. And so I did. First, after Gamescom in August, I went to Prague, but sadly our schedules didn’t sync, but couple of days ago the meeting finally happened. And also he was kind enough to offer me an invitation for the show he worked on, “Beetlejuice”. Being in Prague is always a great idea, so this was quite of an experience.
