I am excited to share with you the upcoming cultural project “Legendele Dobrogei” (The Legends of Dobrogea), organized by the Cultural-Artistic Association Vulturii Carpaților in partnership with the Concordia Oslo Association from Norway. This project involves the production and broadcast of 20 radio theatre performances, inspired by the “Poveștile Mării Negre” (The Stories of the Black Sea) trilogy by the Constanța-based writer Cristian Cealera.
Funded by the SEE Grants 2014-2021 within the RO-CULTURA program, this project has a value of 964,000 lei (equivalent to 194,822.25 euros). The goal of this cultural initiative is to promote the traditions and customs of Romanians and the most important ethnic groups living in the area between the Danube and the Black Sea. The project will run from January 1 to December 31, 2023, with the support of broadcasting partners Radio Constanța (100.1 FM) and Play Radio (91.6 FM).
The first radio theatre performance of the “Legendele Dobrogei” project will be broadcasted on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 6:15 PM. The show named “The Sultan’s dream at Babadag” will take place on the beautiful coast of the Black Sea, in the city of Constanța, where the rich cultural heritage of Romania comes to life. I wrote the music and did the recordings, editing and sound design for it.
The radio theatre performances aim to showcase the history and folklore of the Dobrogea region in an engaging and interactive way, highlighting the rich tapestry of traditions and stories that make this region so unique. Through this project, listeners will have the opportunity to experience the captivating stories of the region’s people, their customs, beliefs, and daily lives, all brought to life through the magic of radio theatre.
As an avid lover of history, culture, theatre and music, I am thrilled to see the development of such an exciting and ambitious project. The opportunity to combine theatre and radio in a culturally significant initiative like this is truly inspiring, and I believe that it will help to promote Romanian culture to a wider audience, both locally and internationally.
Overall, the “Legendele Dobrogei” project promises to be an exciting and immersive experience, bringing the history and traditions of Dobrogea to life in a unique and unforgettable way. I encourage everyone to tune in and discover the magic of this fascinating region, and to support this important cultural initiative.
